Last Thurs eve 3 seconds after finishing the 2006 wheat harvest my 1420 IH did this.It broke the main axle housing in two.It did alot of damage and may not be worth fixing!!

In less than 5 minutes I would have been running 16 mph down the road which could have been disasterous!

All 1420-1440-1460-1480 Axial Flow owners beware.I would urge you to reinforce your axle housings as they were too weak from the factory.Lots have broken over the years.A friend takes one final off and drives another beam inside the original housing which is what I should have done.Since I didnt have a bin extension I thought I didnt need one.Wrong!

1206 i admire you for fising up old combines and reusing them, and giving them another life. I have read a couple of your recent articles and it seems that you only have IH combines.....If you have more please list off what brand and model they are. I really hope you just dont have IH combines because we need to save all kinds of combines.

Blaine, I'm so sorry to see that. I DO hope you can get the 1420 repaired. I know you share my love for these machines and will not jut throw one away without carefully examining all viable options for keeping her alive.

Keep us posted.

I went to Cooks at Clinton,MO today and priced used parts. They have (3) 1420 and (1) 1620 IH parts combines.

I tore the combine down this eve and its fixable. Its going to take nearly $1000 worth of used parts and lots of hours of work to make it usable again. The sheet metal wont be very pretty as it was going to be over $400 just to replace it.I'll just straighten up the old the best I can for now.
