I was told by several that it couldnt be done but heres proof. They said it was too wide and too heavy. With a little planning it can be done.

It was too long and too wide at 98"to go on forward on a 84" wide car trailer. So we pulled it on backwards with the right tire staying inside the trailer frame rail. When the left combine tire reached the trailer fender we jacked it up with a floor jack and took the left combine tire off. When then come a longed it back 2-3 ft more and sat it down on blocks.

With a corn head and 5 weights on the rear axle the 91 probably weighed 6500-7000 lbs so we put alot of tongue weight on the pickup. We went 152 miles on the back roads at 40-50 mph with no problems.

Matt, whats age got to do with the bumper on my 1967 Ford Ranger? Its in great shape and is plenty heavy enough to get the job done as it has for many years..I have 40 years of hauling experience with no accidents.

Just scary thinking that you have probably close to 9000 lbs. hanging from a bumper.

Matt, where are you getting that theres 9000 lbs hanging from the bumper? Its being pulled by the bumper, not hanging from the bumper.

The trailer weighs 1500 lbs empty and the combine weighs 6700 lbs.Thats 8200 lbs total. The trailer has (2) 3500 lb axles and is carrying 7000 lbs of the weight. That means the tongue weight is around 1200 lbs.Tell me whats wrong with that?

I used to pull a 3 axle 18 ft bumper hitch trailer all over the midwest hauling up to 10,000 lb tractors with no problems. It was pulled by a 79 Chev K-30 4x4 with a bumper.

I used to pull a lot of stuff with my bumper. I was under it rewiring the lights one day, and found a sticker on the bumper that said "Hercules bumper co. 12,000 lb max load, 1200 lb max tongue weight" I thought that was plenty heavy for pulling hay wagons and such. Maybe a year or so later, a load of hay broke the bumper off the truck, and i went and bought a heavy frame mounted hitch.

Well at least I'm not the only one. At least it was just a hay wagon moving at 15 mph instead of 50 mph.

I don't mean any disrespect. I just don't want someone who doesn't know any better saying "If he can tow 7500, I can tow 10,000 no problem" and some poor piece of equipment getting ruined. Maybe I'm the only weirdo who looked closely enough at the picture to even notice it. I tend to notice things like that.

I know what you mean. I hauled a jd #25 pull type from nw Ohio to North Carolina on my 29 ft. flatbed trailer last summer, much of the trip in rain. I couldn't take back roads but we made it just the same.

Did something similar with a 705 Uni, but instead we left it to two pickups... one in front pulling, and one in back holding back if needed... mind you, the Uni was not running, so at midnight we take off down the road with a 4 row Uni and two pickups... 10mph average for 30 miles, at 3 in the morning we arrive home with a complete Uni. It was the best thing I'll never do again.

All this is gonna look good in your book one of these days Blaine(no, I'll not give up, smile). Your title should be "Show Me" cause that's just what you've been doing. Thanks for the pics and taking us along. Tom
