I was looking thru my Super 92 MH combine sales literature and noticed that a 75 hp 305 CI MF diesel engine was listed as an option. Was this a Perkins?

Has anyone ever seen a Super 92 Massey diesel? It would have to be one rare combine.Super 92's were few and far between in my area as they were too big.

Greetings combine lovers,
My father and some of his many brothers from central ND were custom cutters from the late 40's. My father quit harvesting in the early 70's. They were primarily Massey guys, although one brother had an Alice Chalmers dealership and, of course, ran Gleaners.
My earliest memories of the machines only goes back to the M-H 90's. My real memories are of the Super 92's. I never went south with my dad on the harvest run, but always helped when they got back up to ND.
I mostly drove grain truck but one year I spent some time running a machine. That was one of the last years Budda custom cut. That year he had a pair of diesel Super 92's. They were great! It was fun to see them run on the same field with the gas versions. Although I can't characterize the situation as on of "running circles around them", the diesels definitely had the edge. I will never forget the sound and sight of the Perkins belching black smoke and the cylinder "whump" when you'd have a near-miss on a plugged machine.
My father bought these machines used in the mid 1960's and as I recall, they came from a rice farm in MO, or maybe AR. They came with drive tires that had a different tread; circular knob type I think. They were replaced with traction style bar treads.
I don't know if I can dig up any photos from the family, but if I can I will scan them and post them on this sight.

I have 2 super 92 diesels as a matter of fact we ran them on the harvest run not that many years ago
they were totally restored and updated with cabs air conditioning murffey switches hi inertia cylinders and quick-atach 20' headers.
they were great machines the 305 perkins had ample power and were very fuel efficent.
I will try to get some pictures on here if I can figure out how.

Yes there were super 92 MF diesels. A whole bunch were sold in Texas rice country. Well liked for the era and were fine bean machines.

Hey Ricetech, would you care to e-mail me? I'm from Texas and am very interested in learning about rice farming. I love rice and eat it [brown rice] whenever I can. It's just sooo good!
My e-mail is sun_dog63[at]yahoo.com thank you. Yes, I also love any combines, old or new, regardless of color!

Okay, first of all, [and 1206SWMO please don't take this wrong] the SUPER 92's are not, and NEVER were, a Massey-Harris. They are correctly, Massey-Ferguson's. In fact, they were the first combines to bear the new MASSEY-FERGUSON name, since that name had been shortened to just "Massey-Ferguson" in 1958, 2 years before the Super 92 was introduced.

Although the 3-worded name, "Massey-Harris-Ferguson" never officially emblazoned the combines, the Model 90's production, along with the 80 and 70, were under that name from their beginning. Same thing for the Model 92. A look at the data plates for all "Massey-Harris" combines built from 1953 to 1958 will show the company's real name as proof, just as the latter M-H 92, 82 and 72 will have "Massey-Ferguson" on the data plates, although the decals still say "Massey-Harris." Just some trivia for all you serious combine aficianados.

Nuts, Whats really confusing is that I have original sales literature for the Massey Harris Super 92 combine form #190/260-75-1 and the combine on the front cover is decaled as a Super 92 Massey Harris.

Then on the back it says Massey-Ferguson-Worlds Largest Manufacturer of SP Combines.

We had Masseys for years, 21A, 90's 92, and Super 92, but no diesels.

There were a few of the Super 92 diesels around here, but I never drove one. They were a Perkins in-line 6.

Many years ago, when the dealer at Rolla, ND sold out, a couple used ones were sold, I have no idea where they went.

Never have seen one but I have thought it would be neat to put a Cummins 3.9 engine in 90 or 92.

Have had a few 92's and seen a bunch, but never a diesel. Just wondering how they got it under there, there wasn't much room for the gasser
