My uncle had two 21A's and an old 55 JD. After word got around how dirty those 21A's were to operate, the only guys that he could get to drive them were wino's, that could cause a lot of breakdowns. We had two Cockshutt 112SP's that were quite similar to the 21A's, but had a lot of improvements over the 21A's - although they weren't much cleaner to operate.

Thats an interesting story and pictures. I am a little too young to recall anything about the harvest brigade. I recall the custom cutters back in the sixties that used to hit this area in the fall when the wheat was ready. They were all from way south of the border, mostly running Super 92s. I've heard they liked the Masseys because of the low profile which was a definite asset when transporting on the back of a truck. My brother has a couple of old timers out in the bush. I believe they are 26 and 27s with the electric header lift. Close to 20 years since they have run.

I wish I could find a 21A in that good of shape to begin with. Everyone I have seen around here has been a rusted hulk. Neighbor has a 21A and claims its one of the original from the Harvest Brigade. Its missing the engine and a few other things.

I met Mr. Holo I like his tribute, but and I appreciate what he did. However, what is historically flawed about his combine and this 21A you were told about, is simply that it was NOT a part of the Harvest Brigade, ever! The Brigade combines were ALL 21's, not 21A's. The 21A did not come out until 1943. The 21 was in production by 1941. The reason for the 21's was simply because they lacked the augers, that much less steel used.

I guess it took parts from (5) combines to make that one.Theres a 21A for sale out in western Kansas but I havent seen it in person.

I just got off the phone with a man that has a shedded-running Super 27 Massey for sale for $500.Sure wish it was closer. Its over 400 miles away and I have no way to haul it.

Nuts, It looks like I will be taking off from work and will be going to go and look at that Super 27 MH on Friday.I'm going to call the owner and tell him to hold it for me until then if he will.I've always dreamed of one day owning a nice Super 27 and the price is right.

I'll try and figure out a way to get it home without breaking the bank.I dont want too but if I have too I'll drive my 1969 Loadstar 1600 IH with 16 ft bed the 400 miles and pull my car trailer to haul the header on.The 1600 has the little 304 V-8 and gets 10 mpg hauling my 14,000 lb 1456 IH farm stock puller.

I'll email you the Ft Scott,KS junk yard number as I found it.They recently denied entrance to my friends as they wanted to look at the 35 MH combine and other stuff.
