How do you polarize the Delco Remy S/G on a Cub Cadet 149?

The "L" terminal was used on early Cubs and it was designated as "Load".

The correct V/R for 149 is IH-545130-R92

I have a Delco starter/generator on a Wards tractor made by Gilson and I have never had to polarize it since I bought it new in 1971. I've had the generator off several times to replace the
brushes and since I have a spare generator I install it and do the brushes later. The regulator is buried inside the frame and is just
about impossible to get to. Never had a charging problem in 37 years. Hal

Go the extra step & polarize regulator only takes 2 sec, this way you'll be sure, momentraily touch a jumper between B & A term on reg,any time you open wiring on s/g & reg you lose residual magnetism in pole pcs in s/g,if you have a bad reg s/g will not charge, you need the residual in pole pcs to start charge function,if you haven't gone to link from r.bedell do so & read/print sections on s/g and 2 & 3 pole reg as to how s/g & reg function & work together.

Actually, every time you use the starter function, you polarize the generator function.

Are you saying it is not necessary to go to the separate step to polarize the S/G ?

Thanks all. I think I may have a voltage regulator than isn't what it should be. Looking at the wiring schematic for CC 149 it has 3 terminals, Bat., Gen.,and f, all on 1 side. My regulator has F, Bat, and L all on one side and on other side and underneath there is a gen. terminal. What is the L terminal? will this regulator work if I wire it and disregard the L terminal and follow schematic for the Bat., gen., and F?

I just look at more wiring schematic and it looks like CC 100 and below has VR like mine. So I assume I can follow that schematic?
