I have a couple of these walking tractors, I found with rotted motors. I have recently put a honda 5 hp engine on one and ran it to push snow, it pushed great, like a tank but I didn't like how I could not change gears because the belt idler did not release tension all the way, is there a trick to setting up the belt off the engine to the tranny so it won't run when the idler is released. Is there a place i can get pictures of the tratcor to determine if there are parts missing off this system ?

Has any one every tried or thought of using a go cart clutch on these machines, ?

Simply: You"re supposed to have a couple of guards to hold the belt so it hangs loose from the engine pulley. Without the guards, gravity will leave the belt in the pulley groove. If you can remember how the old engine was set up or can find a detailed picture of the correct setup you"ll be good to go.
