I have a troybilt rototiller. I think it is called a horse model. Are the both wheels designed to pull the tiller through the ground? Now it acts like only one wheel has traction. Stan

you have to be missing a pin in that wheel ,I just use a grade 8 5/16'x2" bolt with a nylock nut . look on the back side and you can see the hole for it . and grease the axle shaft good this keeps the wheel from sticking to the axle

Yep both wheel should spin, They do not have a diff. in them . So if yours doesn't then you broke a roll pin and the wheel can/will fall off or you have bigger problem inside the rear end. I have one my dad got in 1972 and I use it every year.

I have one from '73 that my Dad bought. If I remember right it came in a crate partially assembled. I still have all the books and still use it also. Sits all winter and starts every spring. I do need new belts and not sure where to get them. I heard Troy-Bilt doesn't exist or doesn't sell parts anymore?

Gates power rated belt 6821 is the correct size for it or at least it is for the one I have

Troybilt belongs to MTD now. Parts are available through them, as well as manuals. Manuals can be obtained from there website for free.

www.mtdproducts.com

This longer link should take you directly to the manuals, if it works.

My tiller only uses one belt and I get it from a local auto parts store that sells Gates Green Stripe belts and the number is 6822 that's 1/2"X 22". They're made for when you're doing a lot of engaging and disengaging the clutch. Cost is around $11.00. I know the earlier Troy's used 2 belts and I think they should've stayed with that since there's a big load on that single belt.

If there's a number on your old belts your local auto parts store can cross-reference them. I have
a pair of the 1/2X22" from Sears if you use them drop me an email good price on them. Hal

third party image

Both wheels should spin if you hold back on the handles when you engage the drive belt. Those wheels had roll pins installed thru the wheel hub and axle as shown in figure 43. Hal
PS: I never had that problem with a Troy Bilt.
