I would do as Joe suggested and having the block and crankshaft measured. Parts are becoming scarce and I think B&S are almost forcing everyone to buy their newer engines. I did an old B&S model 23 9hp engine and it ran fine, but smoked. I stripped the engine and took it to our local auto machine shop. They said it needed to be bored .020" os and the rod journal need to be ground .020" undersize. Parts were available from B&S. I still have this engine on an old Toro Grassking. Still runs great.

You can run off a parts list on your engine off the internet. You can call them for one too at 1-866-436-7387. You will the type # from your engine. Hal

This is an old cast iron eng,a lot of the parts for same may be "no longer avail",the best thing you could probably do is disassemble eng & take block to a machine shop & have cyl checked with a bore gage or inside micrometer to find out if you can get away with a std set of rings & piston or have to go to an os set & have eng bored(.010 set listed as nla from briggs, but may be avail as aftermarket)and then take it from there as to what parts are still avail for eng, maybe El Toro will read this and pick up on & can offer a source of parts as I believe he has rebuilt several of these or similar eng,you might also check on ebay in outdoor power equip, multi use eng, briggs, there are several guys there that sell rebuild kits or put together a custom kit for your needs, you would have to look at ad's and ask seller a question if he could make up a kit for your eng.
