My father's 30 year old ariens tiller runs ok
But briggs carborator now is getting too much air in govenor shaft. Are carbs still available? Is there an easy fix to repairing the carb?? Am I better off putting a new engine on it. If so what will fit???

Thanks,

Mike,
90 percent of the time, the carb does not wear, the throttle shaft will wear and you can put a new shaft in it and solve most fo the issues you are running into.

Jim,

Thanks for your help

Dad took the tiller to a repair shop last week & they said it couldn't be tuned up with so much air leaking in the shaft. I don't know why they didn't fix it with a new shaft or carb. Dad at 84 is doing extremely well but isn't able to repair these things like he used to. We'll put a new carb on it (tiller otherwise is in excellent condition) & be done with it.

Thanks again,

Mike

Eng is a lauson, now tecumseh, not a briggs. Is spec# 671290 OR 67129C?checked my microfiche, could only find 67129C which is a HS50 eng,a new carb # 631923 will set you back $70-$80,no throttle shaft repair kit avail for same.If you go to ebay in outdoor power equip-engines multi purpose-tecumseh and check out small engine warehouse ads or their ebay store, they have new 6hp ohv cart engs starting at $50 which would probably work for you as long as eng heighth not a problem, measure dia & length of shaft on old eng & compare with shaft listing in ad.
