hey guys i took the fuel pump off my wheel horse engine to see about cleaning gunk out of it, according to the kohler manual online for this engine(K181), there is supposed to be a lever that rides the cam to work the fuel pump. when i took it off, no lever to be found. maybe it broke off inside the motor? if so, could i just get a new fuel pump and mount it or will the broken lever(if it's in there) bounce around and cause damage?

please help.

You can go to OPEengines.com and you may see your pump. Hal
PS: If it has a lever I would look for it.

most Wheel Horse tractors with K181 engines use a vacumn pump, that is why they is not pump lever on the pump. They use 2 diffeant pumps, so just because the service manual shows a lever, does not mean there is supposed to be one.

i hate to ask this but are you sure? not that i dont trust you but i really dont want to screw something up. the pump was mounted on the engine where when i took it off there's the cam inside there. i am going to have to go into the engine eventually, it's leaking oil around the base, guy said it had a tick in it when it ran.

i took off the head and when i turn over the flywheel, the valves raise up fine then seem to snap down a little , then return closed. maybe the guides are worn?

thanks again, just trying to get it running and see where i'm at.

What is the spec number on your engine, and then you can find out for sure.

Yep, your uses a B-231390-S vacuum pump, so you have not lost an arm, that is the way they are built on a K181S-30108 Engine. so breathe easy, you don't have to go fishing for an arm, it was never there

I wouldn't leave it in there.

You MIGHT snag it with a magnet, or else drop the engine base.

The connecting rod has a "slinger" or "dipper" that throws oil around, which will probably "whack" the lever sooner or later.

Actually, you'd better have a look in there to see if the "dipper" is intact.
