Daniel,

Let me guess....the blade has been removed. If so....that's part of the problem. I believe that the blade acts as a rotating mass. At least I know that's the case with Briggs & Stratton engines using light weight aluminum flywheels. If the mass is removed....it'll snatch the starter rope right out of your hand, shear keys, and eventually bust the starter rope and/or handle at shut down.

Good luck,
Jay

Is that the way you found it or did it inadvertantly get flipped over?
If so flip it over and see if it runs better I don't believe it is sheared.

You replaced float in carb-Did you set float level & drop? you may be flooding eng & hydro locking piston in cyl,if carb has hi-speed needle on bottom of bowl close finger tight & reopen 2 turns, this should get you in ballpark for starting,if eng still jerky after this, close hi-speed needle, disconnect fuel line from carb, remove spark plug crank eng over 10-15 times, replace plug, crank eng 8-10 times to see if it gets jerky,if it does get jerky it's a mech problem in eng,if not reopen needle on carb, reconnect fuel line, try to start,if jerkyness returns, problem in carb.

Third Party Image

Tecumseh uses weird offset keys like that.

ASSUMING that is the right key for that engine, it does NOT appear to me to be sheared. I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions.
