I have a c-85 with a ele start 8 horse Kohler, hyd. powered front loader attachment. It has the hi-low range + 3 speed trans. I think it was made somewhere around in the 70's
How can i find out the year?
With the loader I'm having a terriable time keeping the front wheels from being destroyed by the weight. Any suggestions?

Charles, it sounds like you need the HD front wheel & spindle kit from Toro/Wheel Horse. I have a copy of a '96 price list showing the kit as p/n 80494 and it listed for $139. I believe this includes two new front wheels with bearings and tires mounted as well as two reinforced spindles which shouldn't spread as you mentioned. As Bill noted, HD rear axle shafts are also available but I don't have those part numbers. From the sounds of it, you are reallying working that horse! Ed.

I too am looking for the kit Toro part number #80494. I am working a 312-8 hard and am in need of HD spindles and whatnot. I prefer to buy the kit if they are out there. If not I need someone to take photos and give me dimensions so I have a better idea for making them myself.

Charles the C-85 was made from 1980 to 1983 here is a list of ID numbers per year
1980 01-08K801
1981 01-08K802
1982 01-08K803
1983 11-08K801
Check your ID tag for one of these numbers.
On the front wheels are you using wheels and tires rated for the extra weight , are the spindels in good shape , do you have a counter weight in back of the tractor ?

thanks for the info. Where exactly can I find the #s though. The tires seem to do ok. I did have a blow out a while back but I was expecting that one to give anyway. I've got one wheel that I'm guessing is the heavy duty (lg ball berings). The other is only the standard wheel that I've modified it to have a have a strait roller (it was grinding those sm ball berings into dust in 5 min.). The problem is the hub tends strech. I'm going to try welding a peice of pipe in there to replace the sheetmetal hub if I can't find another heavy duty.
As far as counter blance I got the the box filled to the hilt with gravel and the rear tires are wet.
thanks again,
charles

Charles check with an older Wheel Horse dealer for the numbers , some models had to have a front and rear axle kit when a loader was installed . I think the rear axles had to be case hardend and the front spindels were larger. E-mail me if you need some dealer numbers .
