I have a John Deere 111 lawn mower that I am restoring. It runs great, but sometimes it is hard to start after it sets for about a day. It starts good, but then it dies, and you have to keep choking it for about 5 times before it will continue to run on its own, then it is fine. It has the fuel pump that mounts to the side of the motor. I have taken it apart and it is all clean, the seals are good and it doesnt leak, and I have checked all my lines and they are tight. Is it possible for that kind of pump to just be worn out? I have checked the carb and it is clean also.

my guess in needle/seat are sticking/or you've got plugged passages in the carb...Or' your fuel pump isn't gettin enuf pumping to start with..check or replace those lines...disconnect the fuel pump line at the carb and see if you've got good pressure at the carb....(of course with safety in mind) Hope it helps...deanop
