Need advice. I posted before about an 18hp Power King w/mower deck, moldboard plow, row plow, two harrows, scraper blade. Tractor has hydraulics to 3pt hitch. Rear tires have tread, but getting quite rounded. It's been out in the weather.
Anyway, the seller said it ran fine last year, but now he can't get any spark, so he can't get it running. Lowest price he'll take is $600.00. I do trust him that it ran last year. He used to keep a garden with it, as did his grandfather before him. The reason I'm asking is because I don't want to pay more than I can reasonably get for it should I turn around and sell it. However, I hope to get it running and put it to use. What do you all think, who are in the world of small tractors?
Many thanks,
Steve

It's worth way more in parts. Be careful though as these 18hp engines are problem children. They can drop a valve before you know it and they wont start. If that is the case, you may be in for a new head. I don't mean to scare you away from it. If it were close to me, I would buy it myself. Yes, it is worth $600 especially with all the implements. Look at it this way, it may just need a new plug, points and condenser. I just wanted to give you a view of the bigger picture. When you look at it, see how clean the air flow is. It gets clogged on these engines rather easily and causes the head to overheat. If the one you are buying is really dirty, then you pretty much know what you're in for.

It probably just needs the points cleaned or replaced. Drain out the old fuel and clean the gummy buildup from the old gas. I would buy it in heart beat. Hal
