I have a small portion of my lawn that has a moderate (NOT STEEP) slope to it. I have been told that Zero Turn Radius mowers have a tendency to be hard to steer in a straight line when you are traveling across a moderate (NOT STEEP) slope. What experience have others had in this regard? The Zero Turn Riding Mowers that are under consideration have a choice of Briggs and Stratton, Honda;or Kawasaki engines. Which is the best of the three?? Thanks.

Look into Hustler mowers. They have models with the engine mounted very low in the rear. They sell both homeowner and commercial mowers, the smaller ones have the simple transaxles like described above. I don't own one, but they look to be build rather rigid.

Others have given you some real good info. I was in the market for a new mower last year and wanted a zero turn but was never comvinced that it was the way to go. I settled on a Cub Cadet 1554 and so far I like it. Now Cub Cadet has a tractor type mower out his year that they are billing as zero turn. Puts the zero turn technology into a tractor type. They just may be onto something. I can't vouch for the dependability but they are puttin out a right good warrenty.,

I have a hilly yard, about 3 acres to mow. I bought a new Simplicity 23 HP with a 52" deck zero turn. This is a commercial unit. I wish I bought a tractor/mower instead. The mower is almost dangerous. We had alot of rain last year and the lawn was wet most of the time. It DOES NOT handle hills well at all. The mower would constantly try to run downhill and when you tried to turn uphill the tires would spin and leave ruts in the lawn. I'm probably going to try and trade it in for Simplicity lawn tractor this spring. I used it about 40 hrs.

Son in law bought a Cub Cadet Tank mower a few years ago. He said it holds the slope better than his Cub Cadet tractor. Wider and lower center of gravity. One heck of a mower.

Do not worry about the engine, all you list are decent engines now for a homeowner, make sure you get a unit that does not have a transaxle if you are worried about sticking on slight hillsides. they do not have enought pump pressure to hold on hils. You need to try to find something in the price range you want to spend, then make sure it has pumps and wheel motors, these have a lot more positive pressure and they have more positive traction with less pressure bypass.
