just got a 140-clutch petal was frozen up-got it free-pulled engine and looking at clutch can't figure out how it works-so,if you depress clutch petal should you still be able to turn the drive shaft? if i fully depress the petal i can still turn the shaft.is the shaft split in the clutch ?should you see any outside movement on the clutch?should the outer ring on the clutch move?

The clutch pedal pushes the inner part of the clutch mechanism forward, against internal springs, to release the clutch, which is a cone clutch.

If the driveshaft is not free of the engine with the clutch pedal depressed, the clutch is stuck (rusted).

You really don't need the clutch, anyhow, since it has a "hydro". The clutch was eliminated on the later models... 300, 317, etc.
