Ive got an old 8hp briggs with a updraft carb Model 200431 type 0220 01 code 6706211
It is leaking gas thru the carb like the float is not working, Ive replaced the float, needle, valve and clip adjusted it about 6 different ways and it still leaks when I have the carb off and upside down I can not blow air into the carb when its in the upright position I can, that means the needle and seat are sealing. ?? any suggestions??

That makes it a 1967. That makes it 30 years it sat on the shelf, dad bought it at an auction when I was 16. I think originally it was on a grain auger. Not too bad 39 years old and starts better than some of my newer ones :>)

John I adjusted the float lower than normal and the leak has stopped. I had to turn the adjuster screw on the bottom of the carb out another turn and this old bugger runs great! I`m not to sure what year this motor is but it has sat in my dads shop on a shelf for over 25 years... Now what am I gonna put it on??? Hummmmm

Hey 2cents, You have Model Type and Code numbers stamped in the blower housing on this engine.
The first two digits of the code number is the year this engine was built.

2 cents, with the carb up side down, the float will hold the needle in the seat. You shoudn"t be able to blow air thru the inlet. Now with it in the upright pos. and the bowl empty you will be able to blow air thru because now the float has pulled the needle out of the seat. If it is not leaking buy bad enough that you can still run it and it runs good, my suggestion is to put a in line fuel shut off an it and just remember to shut it off after you stop it.
