I have a 5hp Briggs on my leaf vac unit and the exhaust post is worn oversize from the former owner leaving the tube to the muffler loose. Can this be repaired or do I need a new head??(FOR THE MOTOR, wife just looked over my shoulder and said that yes I need a new one, with more hair on top)\\ Model 130212, type 1899 01 code 85061707 any one know where to look for a good used one?? Thanks for the help

after you have created new threads, use non perm. locktight! that way, hopefully wo'nt have to worry about it vibrating loose and you will still be able to remove it, when it maybe necessary!

find a muffler number 297274, 494585, or others, these are bolt on mufflers that you can bolt onto the block.

guess i'm confused...exhaust post? or exhaust port? If it's the output port where the muffler usually screws in by threads, and the threads are completely gone, there's little you can do to restore them unless you know a good steam fitter with the right tap to increase the thread size. And that's got to be done very carefully cause the block is aluminum. As far as a new block goes (it's all one piece), you'd be better off buying a new motor for about $300.

So are you saying that the muffler won't tighten up? It's stripped? Does the block have the holes for a bolt on muffler as was suggested?

Correct, the muffler tube that come out of the motor the in to the muffler, was loose and won't tighten. Yes there are two small bolt holes maybe i could try the othe muffler that you suggested. I will try some JB weld or somehing like it. Thanks for the advise, I have to go to the parts store tommorow
