A friend of mine has an Onan motor CCKB-MS-2733J that is blowing oil out the rear oil seal enen with new seal in it. Took a compression reading and we have 90+ lb on both cyl., take oil dip stick out when running and it will have pressure at the fill cap. The pressure relief valve looks ok but not sure if it is working right or not. Engine only has 200+ hrs since installed in tractor. Any ideas or help at this point really appreciated. Thank You

You can't do a good job installing the rear seal without removing the bearing plate. When you remove it make sure that you use a new gasket of the same thickness as was in it. On the CCKs they adjust the crank end play with the gasket thickness. The end play should be .006 to .012. The seal does not need to be packed with grease but simply lubricate the seal lip. The crankshaft end thrust washer is located by two drive pins in the bearing plate. When re-installing the plate wipe all the oil off of the thrust washer and use a little chassis grease on the surface to hold it against the bearing plate for assembly. Put a little grease on the bearing surface also. The crank will only drop slightly when the rear bearing plate is removed and you can simply lift the stub end up a little for assembly. If you're able to tip the engine verticle on the flywheel to do the work it is a lot easier.
The pressure you feel on the oil fill is normal.

Check all the thing mentioned, but the only Onan I have rebuilt I had much difficulty installing the PTO seal by driving it in. I had to redo by using a press.

Ya I found that the seal is hard to get in but we didn"t want or know if we could take the end plate off without bothering the crankshaft. The book also says to pack the backside of thye seal with a fiberous grease??? never heard of that. thank you for your help too.

I took that plate off. Then used my arbor press to install the seal. No more leaks.

Was it hard to line the crankshaft back up to get it back on? we didn't know if it would drop down to far or not. Did you pack grease behind the seal like book says? thanks again

The plate on the engine I worked on only held the seal.

As I see it the one we have has the seal and the bearing on it I think and that is what our parts diagram shows. Are the plate gaskets marked with the size on them? so we know which one to order ? thanks again

Check the crankcase breather. It is mounted on top of the crankcase and has a hose that connects it to the air cleaner. On this engine it is a 4 ball type using 4 small nylon balls to act as valves. Remove the top from the breather and make sure it is clean and the balls are free to move. If the balls are stuck or it is plugged this will cause crankcase pressure. If the breather is working correctly there will be a slight vacuum in the crankcase. Another cause could be you're leaking excessive combustion gases into the crankcase and the breather is not able to handle the volume.

I had the breather apart and saw the 4 balls and they seemed to be free for movement, also the mesh in the bottom psrt is clean, I am going to try the other breather that is on the old engine as we still have it. Also when engine is running and we take the dip stick out of the fill tube and put our hand over the opening there is a lot of pressure ??? thank you for the help and quidence
