I'm about to buy a new garden tractor, can't afford Deere, Toro, etc so probably stuck with Craftsman/Poulan. They call their transmission "automatic", but it looks like hydrostatic. Our small local Sears store doesn't have them in stock so I can't test drive one. Does anybody have experience with it? Is it really a hydro? Is it any good?

My purchase is imminent, please help quick!

Hey Jim. I Have a Crafstman 19HP 42in Automatic(Hydrostatic). Best thing ever to hit riding mowers. You never have to hit the brake, just move the lever front and back and let her rip. I use mine 3 times a week for yard, garden, and giving the kids a ride down the street. The hydrostatic is SMOOTHE...Mike
