I recently acquired a Murry 11 but the bolts are missing on the transaxle letting the wheels whip around and not holding half the axle to the frame. We tried many ways to get the tire off to fix it but none worked. It is rusted on! How can I get the bolts in with the wheel in the way? Any Thoughts?

i have torn lots of old lawn tractors apart and with only transaxel and wheels left takes lots of heat and pb blaster to get wheels off. when you get a new lawn tractor that the wheels slide onto the axle, remove wheels every fall and grease up the end of axle before storage.

I use to (and still do) have the same problem. Once the key gets rusted to the axle and rim, they can be a real b----h to get off. I finally took a piece of 1/8th inch iron, long enough to fit inside the rim, sawed off the pull-bolt and nut from a pulley puller, drilled a hole through the iron big enough for the pull-bolt to go through, then welded the pull-bolt nut to the iron. Drilled two holes on each side of the iron and ran bolts through it and the rim. (If the rim doesn't already have two holes, drill new ones) As you tighten down the pull-bolt against the axle, occasionally wack it with a hammer. It's worked great for me! There's probably something out there a person can buy that does the same thing, but I'm cheap! You should soak the axle with PB Blaster, or some other rust inhibitor, for a couple of days before you try pulling the rim off the axle.

To get the wheel off you are going to need serious heat from a O/A torch.

Not to answer a question with a question, but how did the bolts fall out past the wheel? If there was room for them to come out, there has to be room for them to go back in.If all else fails...keep soaking with penetrating oil...maybe put a little heat on the wheel hub?Good luck.It should come off without too much trouble. When you do re-nstall it,use some never-sieze on the axle to avoid this again.
