I was plowing with my '72 Gilson/Monty Ward tractor today, and the tire chain caught the oil filter mount and broke a hydraulic line. I replaced the line, but cannot find how to refill the hydrastatic drive with hydraulic oil. There is a few small allen head plugs and one large plug on top of the rear axle unit, under the seat- but it's impossible to fill it through there because it takes so long for the oil to go into those small holes.

How does one refill the hydro drive ? this unit takes 4 quarts. also, is that a bleeder valve down my the oil filter ?

ps- someone remounted/turned the oil filter mount, and had it too close to the tire- I have moved/turned it for clearance so it won't happen again

thanks in advance- need help QUICK- this tractor is now stuck in my driveway !

to those who may have been following this thread- after removing the large top plug and valve/spring assembly- simply use a LARGE FUNNEL that fits the opening tightly- the funnel I used holds a quart of oil- pour a quart in and walk away- come back 1/2 hour later put another quart in- and so on- capacity is 4 quarts according to manual- no need to jack up the side or remove a tire or bottom plug- the bottom plug is actually a DRAIN PLUG- so if it is removed, the oil will just run out- keep it in

Merry Christmas
