I have recently acquired a troy bilt rototiller. It is a 8 horse model I believe it is a 1980 year. I don't have any info on this machine. The info I would like to have is. Does the drive run with two belts or just one. My machine just has one. I am trying to buy a manyal on EBAY, but am usually a day late and a doller short. Are the tines I see on ebay any good? Thanks, Stan

most of the horse tiller is common sense kinda stuff, first one is kind of intimidating but after 5 or 6 its a piece of cake

if your tines have pointy ends, they are worn out

I have been told that MTD sells most parts, they took the Garden Way numbers and added GW in front of them, some dealers don"t want to be bothered but keep trying until you find the right person to do business with

Stens sells belts and tines to fit, cheaper tine set runs about $80, heavy duty runs about $130, part #370-350 includes bag of bolts

You can go to their web site and download a manual.

My 7 horse Kohler is a 1980 model also, I think- It uses one belt- the reason for the two pulleys is that you can change speed by switching the belt to the other pulleys. The pulleys should be different sizes. I believe the earlier Horse models did use two belts, but the two pulleys would have been identical.

Thats what I remember also the newer Horse uses 1 belt and you are to switch high and low speeds. And the older Horse used 2. I am newly a Horse owner too. As of saturday anyhow. I t came with all the books. I believe mine is 6hp one tecumseh engine on it.

i bought an earlier 80's model trobuilt pony..if you can get a serial/model number on the machine itself you can look it up on the mtd website..you can print out a manual...my model number/serial number were unreadable,,,but i was able to get a manual by calling mtd...it isn't the exact one, but its close...
