I have the opportunity to buy a well-maintained s12 with 42" mower deck plus 48" snowblower and cab. I have about 1 acre to mow plus a slanted 3 car driveway. The question is how good are garden tractor mounted snowblowers? I'm worried that traction will be an issue on my approx 6% grade driveway.

Thanks for you input.

I was the very proud owner of an Ariens S12 and then an Ariens S17 with the same 48" snowblower. You will need wheel weights and chains. a weight box is not a bad idea. Email me, I still have the weights and chains, and I can sell you mine if you're in CNY. How do I know if this combo works. I live in the famed lake effect snow belt in Oswego County in CNY. Waking up to 48" of snow is not unheard of, and we average 170" per year, the record is 270+++". When the Ariens engine died I bought a Kubota BX2200.

Thanks for the information and offer. I picked up my s12 yesterday and was immediately impressed with how sturdy it is. Fortunately, it came with a full cab and weight system and dual-stage sno thro. I can"t wait until the snow flies!

That's a big blower (are you sure it's not 36 in?). Two-stage are great, single stage suck, especially in heavier snow. You'll need at least 16 hp for it if it's 48 in. You'll also need wheel weights and chains for it. A cab is nice but not mandatory if you don't mind the blizzard effect!
