Lady down the street gave my son an old 112 JD with the 10-horse Tecumseh engine. On top of the head is a large chunk of cast iron with no obvious function other than to add weight. The chunk is definitely cast specifically for this application, as it is held on with three bolts that thread into nuts on three of the head bolts/studs. Did they all come with this, or is it something added on? Any reason I should put it back on? I can't imagine it's a required item for mowing, which is what the boy will be doing with it.

This part is to reduce vibration of the motor.
