how to disengage blades on mtd 46 inch 18.5 hp

I have a mtd probably 1998 or 1999
model with an 18.5 hp briggs and 46 inch cut
its automatic and I dont see how to disengage the
blades on this model i have searched and dont see it anywhere
Thanks in advance for any help

It is probably just a matter of pulling deck lift handle all the way up. If it still doesn't stop either belt is too short or brake pads are worn out. Look under footrests where deck pulleys come up and you should a piece of metal with the brake pad on it - these tend to get bent/ worn and than deck won't stop completely.
