Engine is in an Ariens GT-18 tractor, 12 years old. Has worked good (about 350 total hours) until this year. Twice it has stopped dead while cutting grass. No spark when trying to re-start it. BUT if it sits overnight (cools down) it will start right up again on first crank! Haven't started to take it apart to find the trouble. I suspect there is a temperature problem with an ignition module, Anyone have first hand experience with this?
Thanks for your inputs.

I had a similar problem on my 8N Ford. The problem was the coil. When it got hot it would break down, let it cool off and it would be fine (until it got hot again). This is a inexpensive thing to try.

I ahve a similar problem with a workhorse GT1800 Garden tractor with 18HP Briggs/Stratton twin cylinder engine. When last used (OCT 2000), it started and ran fine. Now it cranks fine but will not start. Acts like it is getting no gas. Gas line valve IS open (was closed while in storage) Just now replaced spark plugs, drained and refilled with fresh gasoline, What else can I try to get it to start?

Thanks so much for your help! Wade Shuford

very possible it is the ignition modual but check all connections and safty switches and wires where they could rub thru before you spend $100 on a ignition mod.

Thanks to Bob W and Don. I will be tearing into it this weekend. When I get it repaired, I will post back here.
