I have a 36 inch deck, 11 hp murry, posted earlier problem with motor, seems to run and work fine now, however the brakes are not working, I adjusted all that I could either way on the linkage. No change, is there pads or something that need replaced ? or has worn out or failed ?

I noticed last yeay it was not working well, but now, dont work at all. I thought adjusting it would do the trick, but it dont. rolls im neutral with the brake fully engaged. seems to slow it when in gear, but not stop it. odd ya would think, well anyhow.

Hope someone knows on this one.

thanks

Got new pads, ya know the old ones were like new yet, but since I had it apart I put the new ones on. The 2 pins that open and closer or release and squeeze the brake pad. Well they were rusty and frozen the the aluminuim housing. had to tap them out and used my dremel to take off the rust and sand paper to smooth out the 2 pins. Works well now.

Thanks again for everything.

can't thank you all enough.

Had same thing on my small Wheelhorse. Agree with all previous comments. On mine although there was still some pad left the adjustment was all taken up and no brakes. Couldn't figure it out at first but new pads did the trick.

also make sure you replace both pads and b4 you go to try out back off that adj nut so the brake pads wont lock up the rotor and keep it from turnin.alot of times youll find if theres still a lot of pad left they sometimes are just glazed and need to be rough up.but its better to replce them.but make sure you adj them .good luck don

Brakes are on left side of transmission, two pads ride against a round wheel.1 pad next to transmission does not move pad on outside of wheel is suppose to move.2 pins push the pad in when you step on brake, these pins get stuck and will not move.Remove wheel from mower, take brake off be sure not to lose small metal piece in back of pad,and free up pins.Pads were $3.60.

Just to expand on the previous post, the brake disk (the "wheel") needs to slide on the splined shaft that comes out of the trans case. Frequently the disk will sieze to the shaft, which pretty much negates any braking action. When you take it apart, be sure to put some grease or (better) anti-seize compound on the splines before putting the rotor back on. Just be sure not to get any on the brake pads or the braking surfaces of the disk. While you're at it, put a little grease on the two pins in the brake housing as well.
