The hydraulic cylinder that raises and lowers my mower deck and hitch assembly is hanging up. The fluid level is fine. The cylinder doesn"t show any signs of leaking. Is it possible that the cylinder is defective? All the linkage seems to be fine. Any troubleshooting advice is appreciated.

It could be the control valve. I had one that would go up and down sometimes and not at other times. I found that the bracket that the control valve was mounted on was cracked and was bending enough that there was not enough travel in the handle to fully open the valve before the handle hit a panel around the valve. I welded the crack in the bracket and the valve and cylinder are working great now. You said that the linkage was okay and if it the travel of the handle is not restricted, there could still be an internal problem with the control valve.

The seal on the piston may be bad or you could have a bad spot in the tube that when the piston reaches that point the fluid by-pas the piston.
