I have a craftsman mower with the 19 H/P motor I have set coil gap, new fuel filter, tore apart carb and cleaned set carb to factory specs, new gas, new battery, and cleaned the magneto.
but when I get it running and turn up the idle it stalls theres a small hole on top of the carb near the choke flapper and if I plug it it idles up but after about 10 minutes it dies my grass is getting out of controll and I need to get this thing running to cut it. I dont have lots of money to take it to the repair shop or a trailer to get it there if anyone can help me to get this running even enuff of a higher idle than slow to cut my lawn I would greatly appreciate it as my kids want to get out in the yard and play and I cant let them due to possibility of snakes.
Please any help I need it bad
thanks a million papaduckie

If you will post a little more info such as the the model/type of the engine, maybe we can help you out, but without knowing what we are working with, makes it kinda difficult to diagnose the problem and all everyone is doings is throwing ifno at you that might not pertain to your situation.

papaduck,
There is a couple of things you need to check out. First, when you cleaned this carb, did you take out the high speed jet and clean it? did you use new gaskets and rebuild the pump, or just clean it. cleaning a carb does not do a lot of good if you do not replace gaskets, old gaskets can cause internal leakage, henceforth, not let it run. What did you gap the coil at? should be .010, coil should not have the effect you are getting, though, just make sure it is right. Make sure you have fuel at the carb and it does not have a pinched fuel line, bad fuel filter, fuel cap that is plugged up, kinda look for the simple things also.

check the diaphram in the fuel pump.also do you maybe have the fuel filter on backwards?

I would take the carb apart again, clean the main jet routing. These (carb) are rough on needle valve and floats.
Flush out your fuel lines and tank good. Any water or dirt will foul these.
I just serviced one of these and it had some old fuel jell chuncks in the bottom of the bowl and would suck it against the main jet and stop engine, then after quit it fall away and start over for awhile.

David,
FYA, when you find them little jell chunks in your carb, most of the time it is caused by using the Sta-bil brand fuel stabilizer. We run into that a lot and after quizzing customer, we find out they are suing Sta-bil brand gas stabilizer. Jim

JT, isn't the whole purpose of Sta-Bil to preserve the gas? I am not doubting you just hoping you can expand on what good the stuff is.

Thanks

Have you tried to slightly close the choke as you increase the throttle? It's not a fix but if it's a lean fuel problem, it might get the grass cut.
