another JD 316 question

Thanks for all the help guys. I still can't decide between an older 316/318 or a newer gt235.
Question: On the 1985 316s, when you push in the brake pedal, what happens? In other words, does the tranny lever return to neutral and then nothing happens when you release the brake? Or does the tractor simply stop and when you release the brake it starts moving again at same speed as before.

When you step on the brake pedal, the hyrdo lever moves to the neutral position. (If it does not, then either an adjustment is out, or there is a broken linkage under the tractor.) Upon release of the brake pedal, the tractor remains in neutral. To continue either forward or reverse travel requires the operator move the hydro lever in the corresponding direction.
