11 hp b&s been setting at least two years. rebuilt carb, and turned over a dozen times and started right up. ran perfect for about 20 mins, and then started pulling oil into carb. motor has plenty of compression, and runs good for a while then pulls oil and startes smoking. valve problems? possibly one stuck and not closing all the way. how do i fix?

took dipstick off and put regular oil plug in, changed valve breather cover(disc is free), took carb off and cleaned all oil out. started up, and runs fine at idle. speed up, and oil comes out of breather tube into carb and engine smokes. take off breather tube from carb, and engine runs fine and gets rid of oil in carb.breather tube unhooked drips oil, but not bad. hook tube back to carb, and you can actually see it pulling oil to carb. not ohv engine, but could it still be the head gasket blown, or something wrong with valves?

did not see that you posted it had been stuck before, you need to take off head and see what is up, you might have a bad score in cylinder, allowing compression to bypass and that is allowing the crankcase to presurize and then this is the end result.

about the only other thing I could think of is you may have valve guides worn and valves are sloppy loose. It would need new guide bushings to fix that. If this has been sitting for very long, you could also have rings stuck enough you are getting blow by, not very likely this is it, but it is a possibility.

Guess you have checked to make sure the engine is not too full of oil. I have seen times when the carburator flooded some putting gas into the oil and causing problems of overfill and running badly.

You blew the head gasket. It's about a $100 fix.

If this is a over head valve engine check the head gasket .They go bad and suck oil . the engine will run hot because its burning oil.

not overhead valve engine. this is just old regular vert shaft engine. in fact, it had points and i converted it to magnetron. it has been sitting at least two years i know of. when i got it, motor was stuck, and i put wrench on pulley to take off, and it came unstuck, and started right up. ran good for about 20 min, then started pulling oil and smoking.

Quit messing around guessing and pull the head off and see how everything looks. If it was stuck you might find bad spot in cylinder, valves not working properly or odviously blown gasket. Regardless, it's simple to pull head and see what's actually in there and how everything looks.

If you have a dipstick to check the be sure it is sealing good. If the dipstick is not seal you will loose the slight vacuum in the crankcase which will cause oil to enter the intake/carb though the breather tube.

When the crancase is conpletely empty, they will hold 48oz of oil. As Kent told you, the dipstick tube grommet is a very likely place to look. These are rubber, and will dry out. when they dry out, you loose crankcase vacumn, it will pour oil throught the breather into the air cleaner base or carb, depending on where the vent hose hooks up. If that does not fix it or seem to be it, look at the crankcase breather and make sure it is not all gummed up. Take off and clean. It is the little box bolted to the block behind the carb that covers the valve springs. Good luck

Did you clean the crankcase breather? Is the oil level a little overfilled? If the disk is stuck open because of dirt, oil could being sucked into the carb after the engine warms up through the breather tube. It's a theory anyway.
