my neighbor is some kind of engineer and while cleaning up his leaves with a lawnboy 2cycle push mower it died,,no spark. being electronic ignition , i quicky diagnosed the coil was bad. this was a sunday afternoon and he took the coil and went into his house ,then came back in about 2 hours and handed me the same coil. i put in in and the engine ran. he said all he did was put it in a oven for 2 hours at 200 degrees to get the water out of it...what do you think about that..he used it again and it worked fine. lucas

I tried that on a B&S 290880 coil from the B&S number series engines. It did not work for me.

All he did was bake the moisture out of it. In a high voltage coil, like an ignition coil, a little moisture will shunt out the windings. We do that kind of thing all the time on electrical equipment at work.
He will be OK until it sucks up more moisture from the air. Unless he can re-seal it while it is dry, the fix won't last.
