I just gor a Ford LGT12H and the battery was dead. It had intermittant spark and I hooked the battery charger to the battery for half a day. The battery (allthough only a year old) will not hold a charge and now when I jump the battery with my car battery I don't seem to be getting any spark.
Can anyone offer any suggestions. What initiates the spark on these Kohler engines.
some specs are:
Kohler 12 hp engine
spec - 47795
Mod K301AQS
Ser 13147846 Numbers on the tractor are:
LGT 12 H
09GN2202
YC00343
4AO9111 Can you tell what year this tractor was. It seems to be in nice shape but needs an engine cover and I want to get the lawn mower attachment. It was used for years to tow Parde Floats.
If anyone has a manual for this I sure would like to see it, or at least the Ignition section. John Gleadle

I believe that your engine SN dates it as a 1983 model-which should date your tractor also-unless it has had an engine change. If you have a Ford New Holland dealer around you might check with them. They go back pretty far-I am ordering a belt for a 1969 there.

The AQS K Series is a simple points/coil ignition.
Try using a 12volt jumper wire to the positive coil post. Then try cranking the engine over. If it starts, there is probably a faulty ignition switch. Burnt points will hamper starting as well, also using a non-internal resistor coil. When running, you should have about 28 volts of AC with a meter connected to the 2 outer terminals of the voltage regulator, which should be located on the coil side of the shroud. The center post is the 12 volt line. You can go to kohlerengines.com and download the factory K Series Service manual for free. Hope this helps. Kenny
