Hi, I bought an old Goodall rotary mower last year at a flea market for $25. It appears to be complete and in surprisingly good shape aside from a stuck valve (I think). I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some information. I've searched the Internet and YT with virtually no results. I'm interested in year, correct color, etc. I typically restore tractors and I'm afraid I'm lost as far as finding information on this treasure.

Thanks!

You're in luck with this reply!
I've got a lot of Goodall stuff…
Actually, the Goodall you've probably acquired WAS NOT made by Bunton... You see, the very first (early) Goodall's were made by Goodall... As in, Leonard Goodall... Years later (mid sixties) they were bought by Bunton... Most of the old Goodall's that come up these days are powered by small Lauson engines, most likely with the Tillotson(sp?)carbs. Leonard Goodall was the inventor of the rotary mower... He was a kid when he used his moms washing machine engine (a Maytag) to spin a blade... Before Leonard, all cutting was done by way of reel or sickle mowers.
He single handedly changed the way grass was cut. After 80 or 90 years, we still cut grass this way.
Oh by the way, I own and moderate the Goodall Rotary mower group on Yahoo. It's small, but it's the only real source of info and pictures.
I have manuals, parts and literature to also help you out.
Hope that helps,

Thanks for information. My Goodall was purchased in 78 with a Briggs engine. I guess it was after Bunton bought out the company.

Adam, I really appreciate the information. I did go to Yahoo! and join your club. There's some very useful information there. I think you may have about the only information out there on these mowers. I've searched for days and turned up nothing. Within 2 minutes of being on the club site, I found a picture of my mower, restored. Now I know the color and decal placement!!! Now all I need is handle grips, decals, paint and some luck and she'll be good as new!!! By the way, I did have a stuck valve. I got it freed up last night and managed to get it started. It actually ran (badly). I'm going to clean out the carb and fuel tank/bowl this week and hopefully it will run well.

Thanks for your help!
Bryan

Goodall's were made by the Bunton Co. I do not know if the company is still in business. I've onwed a 21" Goodall for many years and it is very well built compaired to some of "junk" you see today.

Thanks for the reply Firmarbil, I know what you mean about today's "junk". I still mow my yard with a Ford LGT 165 and I don't see myself replacing it in the next few decades.
