JD RX75 Question

I got a 1987 JD RX75 mower from my Dad last year. I couldn't tell any difference from 1st gear thru 6th, all the way forward was a little faster. Someone told me to change the belts. I put new belts on and theres no difference then before. Slow as a snail 1 thru 6 and then speed up to turtle speed in 7th. Is there other adjustments that need to be made? What is suppose to be happening when changing gears? Is there a transmision on this mower? If I can't get it fixed I'll have to give it away to someone for parts. My 1974 model 56 is 3 times faster.

now you know why your dad gave it to you. which belts did you change? the owners manual may have an adjustment procedure.

I think there were 3 belts. I guess I'll have to get an owners manual.

sounds like your variator pulley is stuck or out of adjustment. raise and support the rear of the rider. with engine at idle, slowly move the shift lever from low to high while watching the variator pulley. if the center piece does not move from side to side,as the belts move in and out of the pulleys, it may be stuck. thats how this rider changes speeds. the ratios change as the belts move in and out of the pulleys.
