Zero turn mowers question

How good are Gravely mowers? I've never heard of them before I started looking at zero turns. How do they compare to Cub Cadet, Kubota, Toro, etc. I don't like the Dixon, looked at one and just didn't care for it. Would be mowing around 2 acres or so, not perfect or manicured. Thanks for any info! P.S. I liked the Cub Cadet Z-force, but haven't tried any of them yet.

Our local small town is looking for a new zero turn mower. The person doing the evaluation has had several demo machines to look at. I told him to look at the Gravely 260. The 260 is built as heavy as a 1973 Gravely 812 I have. He took the Gravely 260 Diesel back to the dealer yesterday. He like the Gravely muck better than a Grasshopper. He has yet to check out a John Deere but he is leaning toward the Gravely so much he is considering buying one himself. The diesel use 25% of the fuel 3 gals. covering the same ground as a Yasoo gas ( 12 gals ). This is their top line machine. The local dealer has been selling them as fast as they can get the in. A local college ( Southwest Baptist University ) has 2 or 3 and they mow alot of ground. 260D about 10K, 260 gas about 8 K. Gravely makes some lower priced 0 turners but you get what you pay for. Like Dad's old 140 JD. Cost about what a car did in 1968 but it is still going strong with the odd rebuild. Kent

Lucas, I sell both Gravely and Dixie Chopper. Gravely 260Z is probably the only mower i know of that will be better than or equal to Dixie or Scagg. From my experieinces Grasshopper is not what they are cracked up to be. I have personally mowed with the 260Z Gravely with a Diahatsu diesel and I have found nothing to compare with it. they have a welded, fabricated deck, hydraulic deck lift, use marbain tipped blades, etc. I am not a perosn who is real easy to impress, and the Gravelt 260Z did impress me. So yes they are made by Ariens, they are one of the best out there. Ariens also makes a very good product. Ariens "Z" s are second to none in quality for homeowners. They are the only homeowner mower that does not use a stamped steel deck, they are also 10ga welded fabricated deck.

I have over 700 hours on my Grasshopper 721-D, and it's "still" the nicest "rideing", and "mowing" mower i've ever used!

I really like the Kubota diesel that powers it too.

Robert

1990 hours on my gas 718 grasshopper. Only thing hard to work on is the starter drive. Easier to pull the motor than to try to to get to the starter mounting bolts! last time I had it off, I replaced them with allen screws so I can use a ball head allen wrench next time.

I have a 718 Grasshopper, with a Briggs 18hp gas. It came with the farm. I'd rather have the diesel, but this one was already there. I love it!
