I have a '70 GT 14 wheelhorse w/ a 14 hp Kohler engine. I think I have a Kohler carb. on it as it doesn't say Walbro on the housing as I have read that it should if it was a Walbro. My friend/small eng. guru tells me the main shaft is worn/loose and it will need to be replaced. Might be able to replace just the shaft but is this worth it ? My question is which carb. do I have, Walbro or Kohler and where do I get one. Also approx. how much ? I'm willing to invest a bit as I really love this WH. Thanks in advance
Dean

Let me make this question easy to answer. Kohler carbs have a brass float, Walbro carbs have a plastic float. This is the simplest way to tell the differance if it is not noted on the carb. Carb and shaft bushing kit is 25 757 16s sells retail for $24.86. Now, they do make other throttle shaft kits, but this number is by far the most common. I have them in stock if you need one.

JT,
I got the download from kohler as you suggested. Had to get it at work, my dial up couldn't handle it. The carb pictured on page 4 in section 6 is my carb. Has all three adj. screws and is a kohler, as per the figure 6-6 on that page. Is that enough info or do I still have to check the float. If so it will be this weekend before I can even attemp it. Thanks, Dean

JT, Do you have a web site or ebay business ? How do I complete the transaction. I think I would be best served if I got the rebuild kit also. Might as well if I'm going to have it torn down. I'll also get one of those soaking kite to clean it up while it's apart. I have shown my email for you to use for contact if you prefer. Thanks Dean

JT, thanks for responding. Is there any way to verify. I have a 6 digit number on the flange, can't remember it now, I'm at work. Will post it if it helps after I get home around 8pm est tonight. I may just purchase it and a kit anyway. I prefer to patronize those who help anyway. If you think the carb. number will help, let me know. I'll post it tonight anyway. Thanks to all. Dean

if you want to post it, go ahead, but you do not really need to, all I need to know is what kind of float is in and I will know by that. I am also at work, so I will see your post tomorrow and then can answer your concerns.

Dean: I sure dont have an inkling what carb you have. But a shaft kit for a Kohler carb is about 20 bucks, so I think it would sure be worth that much if thats the problem. If no one can tell you what carb you have, you might check Kohlers web site or Jacks small engines for exploded parts diagrams. Maybe you can sort of compare with the pic's.

Thanks Mac. I looked in the Kohler web site and was unable to find anything specific to carbs. I did read that a Walbro has the name on the housing and mine doesn't. That's what makes me think I've got a Kohler. Also the adj. starting spot on the screws are 2 plus turns different and it seems to be running ok now using the adjustments for a Kohler. I guess I might as well install the complete kit if I'm going to do the shaft. I will do a search for jack's small engines and see what I can find.
