Older type motor has points. Put new pionts in had starting very easy. Removed to do other work . Installed later now i can;t get to fire; How do i replace points with late model coil?

if it is a cast iron engine, you cannot do this without changing the flywheel, the polarity is wrong on the f/w. if it an aluminum block or cast iron sleeved block and has a 2 legged coil, you can put a solid state on it, give me your model number and I will look and see what coil you will need.

Engines before 1981 cannot be changed over .

better check that again, I have changed many over to the solid state coil and they all worked including a 13HP cast iron briggs without changing the flywheel! Just had to reshape the two poles to the same radius as the flywheel.

you are a very lucky man, the flywheel on the cast iron engines need to have the polarity reversed if had points and condensor from the factory. That is a fact from Briggs & Stratton Corp.
