Tappet setting cold is:

Intake: .008" to .010"

Exhaust: .017" to .019"

On these engines, the tip of the valve tends to wear a recess in the top of the tappet adjusting screw over time, which makes accurate tappet clearance adjustment with a feeler gauge impossible. If you now have the engine apart, check for this wear and replace the adjusting screws, if needed, or have a machine shop grind the screw flat for you.

Do youself a favor, and download a shop manual for free at:

Settings are commonly referred when talking of clearance between the valve and lifters, or clearance on points, flywheel air gap, etc.

Terminalogy....!!! LOL

I simply refer to that as "the gap".

I wasn't for sure if he was talking about the Valve Spec's, ie: Diameter of the stem.
