Drive belts are probably one of the only items you can actually get at a Deere dealer and not feel like you've been taken to the cleaners. Many belts just aren't a standard length so a match up may be difficult. The JD belts are top quality. I'm running original mower belts on my 322 with over 10 seasons mowing a acre and a half.
650 hrs on tractor.

by wanting the sizes are you looking for short term savings or long term savings? You might save a dollar or two with aftermarket belts, but in the long run, it is cheaper to buy an OEM belt. Yes, John Deere does not manufacture belts, Gates, Dayco, Goodyear, might make them, but under their contract with the OEM, they cannot manufacture a belt to the exact specs. It may be the same length, but the degree of pitch it a little off, maybe only 2-3 degrees, but that makes the differance between a belt a year or a belt every couple of years. Then with 2.00 a gallon gas, how much do you save by changing cheep belts more often???

The numbers are in your owner's manual. If you don't have one, get one. If you need to replace it before you get one, take the belt off, set it on the counter at NAPA, and they will sell you a Gates "Green" belt, the best in the business. Green belts are industrial belts and last far longer than consumer grade belts. Belts have numbers on them, and NAPA will make sure you get the exact correct length.

JD does NOT make belts, they buy them from one of the two or three belt manufacturers in the country (Gates, Goodyear, ?), and them mark them up to cover their carrying costs and profit margin.

Gates "green belt" match up for JD variator belts have different cross section, cost $2-3 more and then the variator doesn't work correctly. Been there done that!

That's why I said take it to a NAPA store and have someone who knows what they are doing match the belt up for you. I've "been there and done that" too and I have yet to EVER replace a Gates Green belt. They work perfectly and last forever.

A genuine Deere belt will cost you in the $15.00 to $17.00 range, and this is your best bet, as often Deere belts have a different angle between the faces than common industrial belts for maximum power transmission in a compact size.

To get the proper belt number, besides knowing the mower model (39), the serial number of the tractor AND MOWER DECK are needed to be certain, as there are four slightly different belt lengths used with the #39 mower on a 112. Deere belts usually have the part number printed on them in a pretty durable fashion. Have you examined yours closely for a readable part number? If you would care to post back with the serial numbers, I'll look up the belt number for you.

The belt # appears to be M45998 ($14.99). It is listed as 83.10" long.

This fits 112 tractors with serial number below 259,000, fitted with a # 39 mower deck with a serial # below 176,558.
