have a Tecumseh 10 hp vert. shaft that runs fairly well, but you have to keep playing with throttle, and when you slow it down, it revvs high before gradually slowing. carb has just been rebuilt and adjusted to specs, but throttle shaft has a lot of side to side slack in it. HELP!!!

Brain, that throttle shaft wobbling is at lest 9/10 of your problem.Don't feel bad tho they all do that,B&S,honda,Kawasaki, all of them.I would strongly recommend you take the carb off and take to your local lawnmower shop and let them fix it tho.Because you have to take the throttle plate out to get the shaft out.And that can sometimes be nasty.

I HATE TECUMSEH GOVERNORS TO THE POINT THAT I TOTALLY REFUSE TO HAVE ONE (AND THE ENGINE) ON THE PREMISES. THEY ARE TOO PICKY.

I have always heard bad things about them in this way. They usually last plenty long though. I would take one over a rusty old Briggs anyday.

Just take off your carb and get a new one on ebay. They usually run like $15bucks on there. Then you'll have spare parts from your old one.

Good luck

Slideways, You can throw any of them rusty old Briggs my way anytime. I would much rather work on a Briggs than a Tecumseh/Lauson.

You are correct. Quality determines longevity and Tecumseh engines have been around for as long as I can remember. Just don't have governor problems.

I will disagree with you on the BS comment. I personally think the air driven vane governor on BS is a work of art. So simple, so reliable, and so easy to adjust if it goes whacko.

Best,

Mark

Im not talking about BS governors. Ive never had a problem with them. Im talking about gas caps rusting solid, these carb pickup tubes that you have to take them all apart to fix them, diagphrams.... , the spaghetti of throttle linkages that you often end up rigging the wrong way and making your own springs etc...

Tecumseh, usually protected gas tanks that stand apart from the carb and dont include the throttle linkages that you cant reach with out removing it. Cable actuated governor arm that controls the carb butterfly. Too bad there is barely any racing aftermarket support for them.

Briggs are cheaper in more ways than one and most people who buy one just throw it out when their done with it and buy a new one at Walmart for whatever it costs. This is what bring in the $$$.

I'll use a Briggs if its there but if i had to choose it would be a Tec all the way (except a Honda GX of course)
