As one who is always on the prowl for better or different ways of doing things I found this use this week for a car part.

The rear hub and bearing assemblies for a 2000 ford escort will work on the 4 bolt 4 inch pattern 4.00X8.00 wheels for garden stuff. Namely, they are an easy mod for the front of a garden tractor that is using a front bucket. They cost about 40.00 and come with hub, studs and bearings. The bearings are preloaded so you can put them on a 1 3/16th shaft and tighten them down or just cotter pin them. I'm sorta anxious to build them up for my old sears but I'm going on vacation for a couple weeks. The price is maybe more (not much) than what you can buy the ones for with tapered bearings but these are pretty one piece self contained.

I'ts like different types of projects I do at the shop using automotive parts.Take this one into consideration.....You need to make a lawnmower or other kind of trailer but don't know what kind of axle to use??? Simple, go to your local salvage yard and get a rear axle assembly from a dodge minivan or plymouth voyager... Make nice units, plus leaf springs are attached to axle.....

Best wishes Shannon...
