Just wanting to know if anyone pulled a wheel horse in any tractor pulls. I had, and still have, a very old wheel horse I pulled in tractor pulls through out Nebraska. I removed the smaller kohlor and installed a larger kohlor, which I had sent in and had it beefed to the hilt. I widen the rims and put taller wider firestones traction tires on. The way the wheel horse was built I never did run out of power I just would dig a hole at the end of the pull. Great pulling tractor and I have a box of trophys to remember the good times of tractor pulling.

Bill, sorry about getting back to you sooner, took a few days off. Your question on how much weight we pulled. The sled weight approximate 1600#, weights in the box started at 400# for a 800# pull. Additional weights were added for the 1000 and 1500# pulls. The 800, 1000, and 1500# pulls were the only ones I was foolish enough to enter with a ten horse power wheel horse tractor..hope this answers your question...Rex

yes, pulled we pulled the old red horses too here in new york. started back in the 60s pulling stone boats through the 70s when they went to the weight transfer. used several wheel horse models including an 856 with a twin cyl 2-cycle kohler! have boxes of trophys too, oh,those were the days!

I was pulling at the regionals around 70 or 71 and had won the first class pull I had entered and decided to add additional weights and enter the next weight class. About ten feet from a pull through I had the wheel horse standing on its rear wheels. Next thing I knew little red was sitting flat on the ground. I had shattered both rear hubs and the rear wheels were laying flat on the ground besides me. Just another failure in trying to out smart the tractor. I have a grandson that has been eyeing little red. Maybe someday grandpa will pull it out of the shed, fire it, hook it to he sled and see what the kid can do...maybe he follow in his grandpa's footsteps..thanks for your comeback. I needed this..Rex

rex, i think our stories like this are endless! we too found the same weak link with the rear hubs. so, my father, (who then worked at a machine shop), made aring to put on the hub to prevent the problem, and it did. maybe when grandson talkes gramps into bringing little red back to life you could pass that info on !
