Eaton 851 hydrostatic transmission. Used 20w20 non detergent for years with no problem all year round even in -20F weather. This year I couldn't locate any of the stuff in my area. Local ag store recommended "R & O" hydraulic oil. Tried it, and it worked ok until it got pretty cold, then forward goes very slow, even after it get warmed up. Reverse seems ok. Talked to someone at another ag store, they recommeded AW-32 hydraulic oil (a bit lighter weight). Works a bit better, but not like it used to, still slow sometimes going forward. Looks like there is tiny suspended air bubbles in the oil in the resivoir. Should I drain it again? Should I try some other oil? Did I really F it up?

I have the a similar problem with the same hydrostatic transmission. Will barely go in forward or reverse for 15 or 20 mins and then gets betterbut not right. I have changed the filter and added new 20w20 oil and it is good for a few months and then the symptoms come back. I just changed the oli and filter and all is good again. Any ideas???
