Brad , The Commando 8 was only made in 1968 , from 1969 to 1970 Wheel Horse made a Commando V8 which use a vertical shaft engine . From 1965 to 1968 Wheel Horse made a 8 hp (Kohler powered) three speed tractor , these models are the 855, 856 , 857 and again the Commando 8 . Commando is just a model designation , Wheel Horse started to name their differant tractor models in 1968 instead of using numerals . How rare are these Commando 8s ..... well it is a 35 year old garden tractor and by todays standards that rare . How many are left and running ..... well the one in my back yard isn't running ..... but I could make it run . Let me know if you need more information . Bill in Richmond , Va.

I have a Wheel Horse Commando V8. I'm not sure of the model. The engine is an 8hp B&S (not the original engine.) It has 3 manual gears, plus reverse. How can I tell which model I have? Also, any ideas on where I could locate an original engine? Thanks alot! Steve
