Has anyone else had problems with a hyrdostatic drive not climbing moderate hills? Is 15 degrees the max inclination they can handle? How about the JD 100 series? The dealer can't answer my question and JD says ask your dealer.

I have a new JD L120 that mows my 25 degree slopes just fine. No lag in power, no wheel spin, due to loading the rear tires.

Had a 94 Yardman 15HP before this one, and it took care of the slopes also with out a hitch. Had wheel weights and chains on it to combat the wheel spin.

Crapsman uses the same tranny as the cheap JD's. In fact Crapsman has several changes made to the specs on the LAWN MOWERS that they buy so that only certain things from Crapsman will fit until it's several years old. I have a hydro Wheel Horse that will do at least a 30% slope with a load on. The only problem that I have is wheel slipage and that's easy to fix. Other hydros that I have owned have had no problems with hills unless there is a problem with the hydro itself.

Obviously you don't want to buy a JD then! Buy a Craftsman.

Are you sure it's 15 degrees or 15% slope?
