Trying to get our 1952 Gravely Model L walk behind tractor to start and can't seem to get the timing on the bendix magneto set properly. Does anyone know anything that may help.

Joanne

I have a shop manuel for a 7.6 HP. it states to raise the piston to 3/8 of a inch of the top of the cylinder then to set the kickoff on the magneto to that point. Or the magneto should fire when the cylinder is at 3/8 of an inch before top dead center on the intake stroke (BOTH VALVES CLOSED). Hope this helps these [specs] are the same for the WYCO and the FAIRBANKS-MORRIS magnetos.

Put the piston 5/16" before TDC, then line up the dots or lines on the magneto.

If I get a chacne, I'll copy the page from the service book at work that explains it.

Hello, I'm not sure of if the bendix is similar to the wico. I set the click on the wico to happen when the piston reaches TDC (top dead center). When you turn the engine over by hand does the magneto click? You may have it 180 degrees out of time and need to remedy that situation. Email if you have more questions. Good Luck.
