I have a gravely commercial 12. It runs great but lately will not go into high range. When placed in high it does not move at all. Runs fine in low range, and PTO goes in and out of gear. I would like to educate myself a bit before I take it to a repair shop. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Marshall,

Sorry to hear of your woes. I think if you follow the shift rod down to the bracket that accuates the plunger you will find that the plunger is not being allowed to travel all the way in and is being blocked by a small stone or some debris. This particular area collects debris and needs cleaned out every so often. Be sure to bring the tractor to a complete stop before changing ranges as the tractor is not designed to be shifted while moving. If you have been shifting while moving you may have caused more severe damage. The dog inside the trans gets worn after a while and starts to 'pop' out of gear. Let us know how you make out. Also you might check out the link. Good Luck.

If it has a variable pulley, that is probably the source of your problem. If it's not that, it is either the shifter or a transmission problem

The commercial 12 has an all gear transmission.
Your problem might be in the swiftmatic differential, which 9 out of 10 times is. I would advise you to contact one of the Gravely clubs on Yahoo for additional information. Good luck. Firmarbil
