Where can one find a battery fr a Gravely 818T, the one I removed must not have been stock-it was an industrial style car battery that could have started my mother's station wagon or my 1998 Ford F150-a little too much for a little Onan B48M it sounds like to me. Also, the starter hookups to the engine are gone! does anyone know how they hook up to the engine itself (I have a gear that fits over where the flywheel should be, and it has teeth that fit onto the teeth on the starter)

Unless you have deep pockets or are really into Onan engines I would look into swapping on a different engine. The Briggs and Stratton Vanguard V twin comes to mind or a twin Kohler, both of which are much easier and cheaper to get replacement parts for. Also the new ones are equipped with the Robin engine up to 20 hp from the factory so this might be an option. You might try this link. Good Luck.

Sounds like you need to visit Gravely.com or gravelyparts.com and see about a manual. Also might be able to get one from ebay.com

I have a manual, but Graely said they do not have one for my engine. I have info on the battery but do not have info on the Starter. I am in the process of a "get to know you" session with this engine and am planning a teardown to the bare engine casing and a rebuild. Marking, cleaning, and possibly replacing parts on the engine. The Starter is kinda important, unless I want to hand start it, which is undoable.

Actually, you can "Hand Start" the engine but it is a real pain. Drag out your extension cords and a good drill. remove the protective air intake cover off the back and spin the flywheel away. spent many years starting ours this way with my dad. (He never trusted anybody else working on his equipment and he never had the time.)

I have figured out how the starter connects to the crankshaft. There is a gear that mounts on the flywheel and turns the crankshaft. This is good news :). But, sadly, there is always a catch. My flywheel is in bad shape. when I say bad, I mean "looks like it exploded" bad. Anyone have one?
